Avoidance Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)

Avoidance Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is diagnosed eating disorder that is characterized by restrictive eating behaviors.

ARFID sufferers may avoid foods due to extreme pickiness, meal time anxiety, sensory processing issues, or fear of choking or gagging. As a result, ARFID can result in serious nutritional deficiencies, with can lead to weight loss or/and inability to grow in children.

Our ARFID trained dietitians can help:

  • Reduce feeding anxiety
  • Assess and address nutritional deficiencies
  • Examine potential barriers to feeding
  • Implement Oral Nutrition supplements if required (e.g. Pediasure)
  • Use varied Meal plan with accepted foods,
  • Guide individuals or families to increase variety of foods.
  • Food therapy activities such as food play or cooking (virtually or in person)

Our dietitian’s goal is to ensure nutrition requirements are being met, in a way that is acceptable to the individual.

Our dietitians are registered with Medicare, DVA, TAC, WorkSafe and NDIS.
